Doris Viola Morland Obituary

Doris Viola (Cornelius) Morland was born to John and Mary (Amundson) Cornelius on September 15th, 1922 in Lisbon township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bergen Lutheran Church and attended District 77 for eight years, graduating from the Clarkfield High School in 1940. On June 18th, 1943, Doris was united in marriage to Arden Morland by army Chaplin Harry Montgomery.  In August of 1943, Doris returned to her employment at the Montevideo Hospital while her husband was overseas. Arden returned home in December of 1945 from Southwest Pacific Theater of War. Doris and Arden began farming in 1946 and farmed for the next forty-three years. They were blessed with three children: Kathy, Dennis, and Duane. In 1989, Arden and Doris moved to Clarkfield and in May of 2009, Doris moved to Valhalla Apartments.

Doris volunteered with the blood mobile and was an active member in her church. She served as the church treasurer. In 1974, Doris and Arden had a memorable trip to Norway visiting her in-laws and grandparents’ homes. She enjoyed farming, gardening, hardanger, rosemaling, crocheting, genealogy, tole painting and arts and crafts. Doris was part of the homemakers, gardening, and bunko clubs. She spent lots of time making hand stitched quilts, crocheting afghans and painting dishtowels for all members of her family. For the last eleven years, Doris cherished all her friendships she made at Valhalla. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Doris died on Friday, September 18th, 2020, at the age of 98, at the Clarkfield Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arden; parents, John and Mary Cornelius; siblings: Chester, Ward, Alvin, James, Virgil, Armenta and Janice.
