Gertrude Ann Wright (Dorrington) Obituary

Gertrude Ann (Dorrington) Wright July 12, 1937 – September 15, 2020 Jimmy and Wendy would like to announce the passing of their beautiful mother; Gertie, after two years of being at home under the Palliative Care umbrella. She was the only daughter of William and Donelda (MacKay) Dorrington of New Glasgow. Family was everything to mom; she was an extraordinary mother and grandmother. She loved her parents and her brothers dearly. In her early years she spent most of her life in the rinks all over the county and beyond watching her brothers; John and Frank (Danky) Dorrington and cousin Danny Dorrington playing hockey. She loved hockey and was the biggest Montreal Canadiens Fan. Mom loved her life with us; we never questioned how she felt about us, we will carry that deep love with us for the rest of our lives. One of her greatest joys was her grandson, Jimmy whom she loved so very much. She was an animal lover, she loved her cat Meowford. She loved her son-in-law Lee who always had a way of making her smile. She had a special love for her nephew Frankie. She enjoyed watching TV and listening to music. She spent a lot of time singing to her favorite artists, Elvis being #1. Her love of music gave her the opportunity to be the focus of a video the Palliative care program did on music therapy. She is survived by her son; Jimmy Wright, Stellarton; daughter; Wendy (Lee) Caldwell, Stellarton; grandsons; Jimmy Wright, Stellarton and Joseph Wright, Trenton, brother; George (Mary) Dorrington, New Glasgow; sister-in-law Anne Dorrington and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; James “Rock” Wright, father; William, mother; Donelda, daughters ; Kathleen and Georgina, brothers; John Dorrington, Frank (Danky) Dorrington and Hugh ( Sam) Dorrington, brother-in-law; Dennis Wright and sister- in-laws; June Dorrington and Angie Dorrington. We wish to thank Dr. Kwasnik and Rachel with Palliative Care; Continuing Care and her VON team for the exceptional care mom received. We wish to thank our neighbors who were always there. We wish heartfelt thanks to her niece; Tracy Taylor for being the best support to her Aunt Gertie and the family. A Celebration of Gertie’s life will be held at Summer Street Industries on Saturday , September 26,2020 from 2-4 pm. Donations in Gertie’s name can be made to Palliative Care or the SPCA .COVID -19 precautions will be in place ,masks and social distancing please.
