Ralph Smith

Mr. Ralph Smith, age 97, of Webbville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, September 15, 2020, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. He was born August 13, 1923, a son of the late Don and Carrie Musick Smith. Ralph was a WWII veteran receiving the purple heart award. He was self employed and owned Ralph Smith Garage and Wrecker service for over 65 years. He enjoyed being outdoors with family and friends and was an avid fan of Cincinnati Reds baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Randolph Smith, Jim Smith, D.L. Smith, and Nathan Smith; and one sister, Hazel Porter. Ralph leaves behind his wife of 75 years, Thelma Green Smith; two sons, Ralph Jr. (Stella) Smith of Webbville, Kentucky, and Roy (Bea) Smith of Grayson, Kentucky; three daughters, Diane (Jim) Justice of Grayson, Kentucky, Connie (Jimmy) Cumpston of Ashland, Kentucky, and Carolyn (Frank) Coburn of Webbville, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Gee Of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and one brother, Malcolm (Sue) Smith of Webbville, Kentucky. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2020, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Grayson, Kentucky, with Pastor Gary Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Northeast in Greenup County, Kentucky, with full military honors presented by Kenova American Legion Post #93. Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 17, 2020, at Grayson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Grayson, Kentucky, with masonic rites conducted at 7 p.m. by the Willard Masonic Lodge #626. Rick, Steven, Roger, Rob, Jeremy, and Aaron will serve as pallbearers. In leiu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Ralph’s memory to the Ashland Community Hospice Center. Due to COVID-19 regulations, we ask that everyone wear a mask and practice social distancing.
