It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Hedley Edwin Clarke announces his sudden passing at home on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Born in Corner Brook, he was the son of the late Philip and Selena (Watton) Clarke. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 39 years, Joanne (nee Devereaux), daughter, Terri Clarke (Peter Reilly) son, Mitchell (Robin Battiste), sisters, Blanche (Neil) Morrissey, Eva (Harold) Sheaves, Carrie Legendre, brothers, Max (Eileen) Clarke and Derek (Cynthia) Clarke, special nieces, Darleen (Barry) Musseau, Donna Sheaves and Denise (Corey) Anderson, sisters-in-law, Elaine Devereaux (Dennis Hynes), Tracy (Dave) Dumaresque, brothers-in-law, Brian (Susan) Devereaux, Michael Devereaux (Martha Tobin), Glenn (Barbara) Devereaux; Aunt Olive Reid, mother-in-law, Florence Devereaux, extended family, nieces and nephews, large circle of friends and neighbors. Hedley was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Selena (Watton) and father-in-law, James Devereaux. Hedley had a variety of different careers over the years including salesperson, store manager, business owner to Expediter in Alberta with K2 Mining. His favorite job however, was with CFGN Radio where he was a news and sports broadcaster. He particularly loved broadcasting senior hockey games and would travel with the Mariners to cover their out of town games. Hedley was a sports enthusiast and over the years he played basketball, softball, floor hockey, broomball and ice hockey. Since retiring 5 years ago, he had a passion for bicycling and took up snowshoeing in the winter months. He also had a deep love of music and spent countless hours downloading music for friends. He also loved riding on his side by side with Joanne and a close circle of friends. He was a member of the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Care Foundation and a past chairperson of Winter Carnival; he served on two Come Home Year Committees, was a member of the Referee Association, a YBC coach and coached junior and high school boys’ basketball. No one could stay a stranger in his presence. The family will be receiving friends and family on Wednesday, September 16 from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 17 from 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 18 at 2:00 p.m. from the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church at Wesley United Church officiated by Father Lee Lainey. In keeping with Hedley’s wishes cremation to follow and a private family graveside will be held at a later date. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in memory of Hedley can be made to Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre Foundation. Words of comfort can be sent to the family by visiting www.oceansidefh.ca
