MacKENZIE, Edith C. Toney River The family of Edith Christena MacKenzie are saddened by her death, September 13, 2020. She was born February 1, 1921 to the late John and Esther (Innis) Cameron, Back Shore, Melville, where she attended school until age 16. Mom attended New Glasgow High School while working for her board. She studied Nursing at the Aberdeen Hospital receiving her RN in 1944. She nursed in Kentville, Annapolis Royal and Digby Hospitals. She also did public health and vaccine clinics after she was married in Toney River. She was predeceased by husband, William Owen MacKenzie. They were married December 21, 1946, making Toney River their home. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and attended St. David’s, Toney River, Ladies Aid, AMS (life member) and Ladies Bible Study groups for many years. They had son, Rennie (Heather) and daughters, Eleanor (Jim) and Ruth (David). She has grandchildren, Daryl (Jodie), Marty (Penny); three great-grandchildren, Abbie, Jackson and Jerrica (Eric), great-great-granddaughter, Blakely; nephews, Allan, Gordon, Mac and Elmer Cameron; nieces, Diane Vincent, and Carolyn Grant. She was predeceased by sister, Viola (Hector) Semple; brothers, Jack, Aubrey (Agnes) and George Cameron, and granddaughter, Lois Brown. Mom was honored to name the Festival of the Tartans in New Glasgow, winning a transistor radio. The family would like to sincerely thank the VON/homecare for their home visits, Dr’s O’Sullivan, Archibald, Hammel, Young and MacLachlan and the staff of the Shiretown Nursing Home for their exceptional care. A public graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 16th at 2:00 PM in Riverbank Cemetery, Toney Mills, with Rev. Enjei Achah and Jacquie Ross officiating. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. COVID-19 restrictions in effect. Public is encourage to bring seating and shelter from the sun.
