Philip E. Ascher Obituary

Philip Eugene Ascher, 71, of Salina, died Sunday, September 6, 2020, at Salina Regional Health Center, in Salina, Kansas. Philip was born in Junction City, Kansas, on April 9, 1949, a son of the late Elinor (Wili) and Earl Ascher. Philip graduated from Salina High School in 1967 and from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1974 with a BA degree in Business Administration/Economics. On August 14, 1971, he married Brenda Joyce Painter in Emporia, Kansas. Philip served his country in the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam veteran. He worked at the US Postal Service, Beach Aircraft Corporation, and Phillips Lighting before purchasing and operating Phil’s Liquor until his retirement in 2016. Survivors include his daughter, Karleen (Ron) Jackson of Salina; grandson, Vincent Moore of Salina; granddaughter, Erin Jackson of Salina; brother, David Ascher (Kayla) of Salina; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Ascher of Salina, Janet Schalansky of Topeka; brother-in-law, Richard (Becky) Painter of Overland Park, mother-in-law, Florence Painter of Topeka; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Brenda Ascher; brother, Stephen Ascher; brother-in-law, James Schalansky; and father-in-law, Curtis Painter. His body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. A celebration of life memorial service will take place Saturday, September 19th at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia Road, Salina. Attendance at the church will be limited to immediate family members. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page at facebook.com/ctksalina. Per the family’s request any people attending the service will be required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church or the Salina Emergency Food Bank sent in care of Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina, Kansas 67401.
