Mae Nordguist Obituary

Mae Nordquist was born on March 30th, 1927 to Karl and Annie Zatorski. She was the seventh of twelve children that Karl and Ann raised in the Long Lake area. She is survived by her husband Laurie, sons Dennis (Janet), Jerry, Kenny, Eddie (Debley), Larry, Gordon (Pat), as well as three sisters, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends and relatives. She was pre-deceased by her first husband John Wanechko, daughter in laws Marlene (Larry), Debbie (Ken), grand-daughter Angela Wanechko and eight siblings.

Mae went to the Darling school before the entire Zatorski family moved to the Warspite, Waskatenau area in the early to mid forties. It was on a farm near Waskatenau where John and Mae raised their six boys. She always had a wonderful garden and she had a natural knack for sewing. She did custom sewing for people in the area which helped supplement the family income. After her husband John passed away, she had to make a living. She bought herself a car, got her drivers license and worked at Ernie’s Bakery in Smoky Lake for a number of years. During this time, she also had a new house built as the first home had been lost to a fire. She was at a dance one evening when she met her present husband Laurie Nordquist. Laurie was a bachelor so you can imagine the shock to his system when he fell for Mae who had six boys. Instant family! But it all worked out. Mae and Laurie were married on November 12th, 1977 and shared 43 years together. They built a house on Laurie’s farm in the county of Thorhild. They did lots of travelling and attended many social gatherings together. They belonged to a bowling league in Radway for about ten years and this led to bragging rights. They were often seen at the Thorhild Seniors Drop-in Center. Christmas and other family gatherings saw their house full of family. Mae continued to have beautiful gardens and she had many hobbies to keep her occupied. Mae loved playing bingo. And she loved cats. Any stray that showed up at the door got fed. And we mean cats from miles around got fed. Mae passed away on September 8th, 2020 at the age of 93 at the Radway Extended Care. She will be dearly missed.
