It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Marian Johanna (Hansen) Perkins on Wednesday, September 9th, 2020 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Marian was born in Grand Falls, NB on June 8, 1927 to the late Lewis and Anna (Larsen) Hansen and was the loving wife of 18 years to husband, Malcolm Lloyd Perkins.

Marian worked as a Social Worker for 25 years with the province of New Brunswick. She was instrumental in establishing the Family Education Program at Ridgewood Addiction Services.  Marian was a founding member of the Elizabeth Fry Society and it remained a passion in her life over the years. In 2013 she was awarded the Order of New Brunswick and Lady of the Year honours from Saint John Beta Sigma Phi for her advocacy work championing women’s rights and issues of social justice.

Faith and devotion defined Marian’s life. She was an active member of Silver Falls United Church and participated in their choir for many years. Singing was a source of great joy to her and an inspiration to others.

Marian is survived by her 4 children; Brian (Carla), Jane Perkins Love (Howard), Kristin Thompson (Gary) and Lorna (Jerry). She is also survived by her grandchildren; Signa Love (Robin), James and Peter Thompson as well as step grandchildren Kara, Lucas, Lincoln, Archer and Wyatt. Marian will always be remembered with great love by her niece and nephews; Gail, Blair and Leigh, and many cousins near and far.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marian is predeceased by her loving brother, Douglas Hansen and daughter-in-law Sheena Stephens-Perkins.

Resting at the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation hours being held on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 at 1:00 PM until service time at 3:00 PM from the Fundy Chapel.
