William Tyler

William Tyler, Jr. was the firstborn, June 24, 1949 to parents William Cale and Lillie Mae Lynch Tyler in Houston Texas.  He was baptized in the early 1960’s at True Light Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lott where he was actively involved in all activities of the church.  Later William became a member of Pentecostal Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dempsey C. Jones.    

He was educated in Dunbar Elementary and Miller Junior High School, where he was a band member and played the Tuba.  He graduated in 1967 from Jack Yates High School, home of the mighty Lions where he participated in the Arts and the High School Acapella Choir.  

He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1967 and served in the Vietnam War era.  He was stationed at the Air Force base in San Bernardino, California.

He married Christine Reed and to this union Philip Anthony Tyler was born.  He returned to Houston after his honorable discharge from the Air Force.

He joined Community Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Myles and October 4, 1987, he was ordained as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. Royal Williams.  In 1990 he became a member of Waco Sovereign Grace Baptist Church remaining under the leadership of Rev. Williams. He was a Godly man who loved God, the church, his Pastor, and entire family.   He served there faithfully as Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, and finance Chairman.  He found joy in being a good steward and honoring God in his duties; teaching Sunday School, cleaning, and maintaining the upkeep of the church. He was known as “Papa” at the church daycare ministry.  

After moving to Waco, he married Angela Bible on June 21, 1986 and they were happily married 34 years. He was a devoted and loving father.  He opened their home to additional family members and at one point there were 6-9 children in the home.  He loved to talk to his oldest son Philip for hours several times a week.  Only God could give such a heart like his; William loved, cared, and provided for wife, children, sister, and cousin.  Then came his grandchildren and great grands who were at his home most weekends and holidays.  He was the oldest of his siblings, and they all loved and respected him.  God also blessed him with Pastor Williams’ family in Bryan TX whom he loved like his own. 

William worked over 30 years for the United States Government including his military years, U.S. Postal Service,  and VA Regional Office. His favorite hobbies were barbecuing, watching westerns, studying the Word of God and he was an avid sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one brother Eddie Tyler.  

Left to cherish his memories; his wife of 34 years, Angela Bryant Tyler and seven children whom he loved and raised; four sons Phillip (Shurla) Tyler of Chester New York, John (Saundrea)Bible, Shannon (Katie) Burns, and Richard (Dejhan) Burns, three daughters Shaniqua (Cardis)Williams, Sheretta (Shannon) Rollins, and Brande Burns, all of Waco Texas.  Five sisters Linda (Sie) Jones, Shirley Brownlow, Hazel Tyler Ramsey, and Cindy Tyler all of Houston Texas, Sandra Tyler Jones of Waco, Texas.  two brothers, Kevin Tyler of Houston TX and Anthony (Kim) Tyler of Fort Worth TX. Mother-in-law Bernice Bryant; a special sister/cousin Sheila Reese; two nieces and one nephew that he helped raise Raylene and Kristina Sanders and Daniel Williams one Aunt, Helen (L.C.) Davis; 21 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
