It is with great sadness Glen Grover of Lacombe passed away unexpectedly on Sept 8, 2020 at the age of 85. Glen is survived by his loving wife Joan; children Bartley (Rosie) and Glenice; grandchildren Kyle and Katelyn; brothers Merle (Shirley) and Ron (Debbie), Joan’s siblings Al (Ida), Norma (Merv), Marilyn (Paul) and special cousin Grace Krautt (Karl). Glen is also survived by many special nieces and nephews as well as numerous extended family and an abundance of friends.

Glen is predeceased by parents Hicks and Florence, brothers Lloyd, Norman and sister Elaine. 

Glen was born in Castor, Alberta on June 20, 1935. His early years were spent on the family farm in Byemoor where he had many fun-filled times with siblings and cousins who lived nearby.  After finishing formal education, he moved to Red Deer to live with his aunt and uncle Grace & Stan Grover. He worked for Silverwoods Dairy as a route supervisor and enjoyed mixed curling at the Curl-a-Rock where he met Joan. Glen’s mischievous nature was to throw snowballs at the cute X-ray technician walking home from work. On June 8, 1963 Joan and Glen were married in St John’s Anglican Church in Lloydminster, SK. The newlyweds settled in Red Deer and the family welcomed Bartley Garret in May, 1965 and Glenice Marie in September, 1967.

Glen returned to school to pursue his Business Administration diploma from Red Deer College and graduated in April, 1975. He was offered employment with Parkland Savings and Credit Union as a loans officer and subsequently took the position of Lacombe branch manager in December, 1976. The family moved to Lacombe in July, 1977 where Glen and Joan have resided to present.

Volunteering was a very important part of Glen’s life. Glen was an active member of the Lacombe Lions Club for over 30 years. In addition to being the chairman of the Lions Baseball tournament in 1986, Glen’s many contributions earned him the Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services in 2008. Glen’s love of curling was apparent in his dedication to the Lacombe club where he was on the executive, organized the seniors league and worked casinos to help fund club activities. Glen was also an active member of St Cyprian’s Anglican church where he served as treasurer, minister’s warden and people’s warden.

Glen enjoyed golf, specifically at the Alix G&CC Friday Morning mixed league. Joan and Glen enjoyed many trips including Holland, the Ukraine, Mexico and the Maritimes. They also took numerous RV tours across Canada and the United States from Whitehorse to the California Redwoods and North Dakota Black Hills. One of their favourite trips was an Alaskan cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary with the children and grandchildren. Glen loved baseball and was able to attend spring training camps in Arizona and Florida where he was able to watch his favorite Blue Jays in action.

There will be a private memorial service and his remains will be interred at the Fairview Cemetery Columbarium.
