Lisa Black, 59, of Lake Floyd, WV, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 7, 2020 at Genesis Salem Center in Salem, WV. She was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor on July 24, 2020. Lisa approached death with dignity and curiosity.

Lisa was born August 29, 1961 at Fort Bragg, NC. She graduated from Washington Irving High School in Clarksburg, WV in 1979. She was active in student council and athletics. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master of Science degree in computer technology from the University of Maryland. Lisa lived and worked as a teacher in countries all over the world before moving back to Lake Floyd. One of Lisa’s colleagues from Casablanca recently wrote:

[I will remember] all our adventures in the High Atlas Mountains with Amis des Ecoles: Surveying the worn-down schools for the poor Berber children, distributing backpacks, building roofs, installing a computer in the main village school, and bringing up all the lost and found clothes for the children. The whole village was wearing CAS PE uniforms! We had some great moments at the Casablanca American School teaching and coaching together. I will always treasure them.

Lisa treasured the support, kindness, thoughts and generosity that family, friends, and fellow classmates provided through calls, cards, flowers, and in-person and virtual visits through her illness. She enjoyed traveling, living abroad, sailing, crafting, hanging out with friends and spending time with her dog, Baxter.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, Janet Fletcher Black of Lake Floyd, WV and Dr. James Rutherford Black, II of Birmingham, Ala. Lisa is survived by her four older siblings, Kristin Titterington (Scott) of Fort Collins, CO; Doug Black of Elkins, WV; Tracey Black of Boulder, CO; Kevin Black (Kristi) of Missoula, MT; and nieces and nephews, Jeremy Black, Meg Black, Nicole Ard (Greg), Aly Titterington and Andy Titterington, Kai Black and Brandon Black.
