Jean Carolyn Garvey Silver Spring, Maryland Obituary

Jean Carolyn Garvey

Jean Carolyn Garvey (nee Small) passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, September 6, 2020. She was 85 years old. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 44 years, Bill, and her mother and stepfather, Emily and Bill Domino, of Smyrna, Delaware. She will be deeply missed by her family: Michael and Robin Garvey of Frederick, Maryland and their son Keith; and Christopher and Lucy Garvey of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and their children Quinn, Caroline and Colin. Jean was a woman of diminutive stature, but she possessed a fiery, courageous, strong and loving character. She grew up in Salisbury, Maryland and was a nurse by trade. After meeting and falling in love with Bill, the family moved to the Rockville, Maryland area, where they raised their family. They were long-time and active members of Holy Cross Church in Kensington, Maryland, where they made and treasured life-long friendships. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, craft making, Words with Friends and yes, the occasional trip to the casinos to play the slots. Her greatest passion was gardening, and she created the most beautiful and peaceful sanctuary for all God’s creatures near the stream behind the family home. Jean’s enduring legacy is her love of her sons, most especially Michael. Following his injury in 1986, Jean was a loving advocate for Michael. She loved him unconditionally and was devoted to his care and well-being. She met every challenge in life with a steadfast resiliency, humor and a tireless commitment, most especially when it was in support of a family member or friend. She was an adoring MomMom for her 4 grandchildren. Jean will be buried 19 years to the day, along-side her beloved husband, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, Jean asked for donations to the SPCA or the National Head Injury Foundation.
