Frances Evelyn Thienes age 95 years of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan died on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at the Shaunavon Hospital & Care Centre in Shaunavon. Frances was born in Eastend, Saskatchewan on August 12, 1925 to Harold and Lydia Fernquist. She was raised in the Stone District and received her education at Pleasant Mound and Eastend Schools. Frances worked in Eastend for a while. She married Roderick Thienes at Tompkins, Saskatchewan on August 25, 1950. They lived in Langley, British Columbia for 3 years before moving back to the Stone District where they lived and farmed until 1980 when they moved into Shaunavon. She was proud of the Pine Shelter Belt she planted while on the farm and had been a member of the Stone Ladies Club. Frances worked at the Inn of the South for several years after moving to Shaunavon. She enjoyed spending lots of time at the family farm during the summer; and would help out at harvest; right up to the age of 92. Frances volunteered at the nursing home, particularly with the bingos. She enjoyed bowling and playing solitaire. Her life was her children and grandchildren. Frances was predeceased by her husband Roderick on February 24, 1994, her daughter Charmaine Bernath on August 26, 2018, her parents Harold & Lydia Fernquist, her brother Leonard Fernquist and sister-in-law Florence, brother-in-law Cliff Thienes and sister-in-law Laura, nephew Rick Fernquist. She is survived by her son Barry (Shirley), grandson Garrett (Kristy), granddaughter Allyssa (Trevor) and great grandchildren Lydia, Derek and Maxwell, grandson Roderick and granddaughter Sara (Kevin) and great granddaughter Frankie; her daughter Brenda Wallis (Barry) and granddaughter Bobbi (Kelly) and great grandchildren Kortlyn (Cameron) and Mathew and grandson Stacey (Benita) and great grandchildren Austin and Constance; her son Dwayne; her son Michael (Wendy) and grandchildren Logan and Auburn; her son-in-law Arne Bernath; and nieces and nephews. A Family Funeral Service was held at Centre Street United Church in Shaunavon on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider. A Public Graveside Service took place at 3:00 p.m. at Tompkins Cemetery in Tompkins, Saskatchewan. A Grandchildren Tribute was presented by Bobbi Fuller and Sara Lewans. Roderick Thienes and Logan Thienes read scripture and Garrett Thienes and Wendy Thienes provided special music. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Honorary Bearers were her grandchildren Garrett, Allyssa, Roderick, Sara, Bobbi, Stacey, Logan and Auburn and her great grandchildren Lydia, Derek, Maxwell, Frankie, Kortlyn, Mathew, Austin and Constance.
