Haskell Godfrey, 75, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at home surrounded by family and friends after a battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on September 17, 1944 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina to the later Rev. H.C. Godfrey, Sr., and Ada Cothran Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey grew up in the Greenville Area of South Carolina and moved with his family to Valdosta in his mid-teens and attended Valdosta High School. He soon began working in the new car business with Hayes Reddick. Mr. Godfrey has continued to work in the car business for over 50 years and through several car dealerships over the years. In more recent years he owned and operated hotels and motels in North Carolina. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting, and traveling. Mr. Godfrey was a follower of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He was also very involved from an early age with his family in ministry, and helping his father begin Bemiss Road Baptist Church. He participated in many aspects of the music ministry there. In the mid 1960’s he met the former Sibbie Kirby and they were married in March of 1965 and celebrated 55 years of marriage this year. He served on the Advisory Board for the Little Book Ministry. Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife of 55 years Sibbie Kirby Godfrey, of Valdosta; his daughter and son in law Kellie Godfrey Lyons and Shannon Lyons, of Valdosta; his grandsons, Lincoln Haskell Hardeman, Truit Craig Hardeman, Marlie Lyons, Macy Lyons, and Mason Lyons, all of Valdosta; his sisters and brother in law, Faye and Rick Setser, of Valdosta, and Judith Cronk, of Hahira; his brothers and two sisters in law, Terry and Pam Godfrey, of Macon, Danny Godfrey, of Panacea, FL, and Barry and Peggy Godfrey of Valdosta; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at 11 a.m. a Covenant Baptist Church with Rev. David Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
