Edward Joseph Alfred Smith
<p>Edward Joseph Alfred Smith, 2nd, 57, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, September 5, 2020 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was the high-school sweetheart and husband of Robin L. (Cute) Smith. Born in Central Falls, and raised in Cumberland, RI he was the son of Edward Joseph Alfred Smith and the late Yvonne Marie (Plante) Smith.<br /> <br /> Eddy was a loving husband of 35 years, a proud Daddy, Grandpa and uncle, and a beloved, son, brother, and friend. He was a standout high-school athlete in football and track and field who went on to teach others coaching football, basketball, and officiating high school football games. A competitive spirit was engrained in him which he shared with all those he coached, whether a neighborhood game of football, a living room game of Jeopardy or a campfire-side game of cribbage. Football was his passion; more than a fan, he was an analyst and expert of the game. He was a music lover and drummer who loved jamming with his band, listening to live bands, or drumming on the steering wheel. He was a loyal employee in the transportation industry where he managed and mentored many as a Transportation Supervisor. He loved spaghetti and meatballs, cooking on the smoker, and gathering with family and friends. He enjoyed family vacations from Maine to Florida and cruising, which spanned from Nova Scotia to the Southern Caribbean. He loved spending weekends camping with family and friends and more recently, sailing on his boat, Sealestial. He was proud to be a member of the Westerly Yacht Club. He was a leader and guiding figure for many and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.<br /> <br /> Besides his wife Robin and father Edward, he leaves his two daughters Kayla Friend and her husband Brendan and Kerry Faria and her husband Mitchell; his adored grandchildren Roman, Carson and Sage; his siblings David Smith and wife Tracy, Deborah O’Brien and husband David and Suzanne Banspach; along with several nieces; sister and brother-in-law Brenda and Daniel Gaudenzi and his father and mother-in-law James Cute and Lucille Kelleher. He was preceded in death by his mother and nephew.<br /> <br /> Due to current restrictions, all funeral services will be private. S.R.
