Katherine Marie Durham Obituary

Katherine Gumm Durham, 52, of Snow Camp, passed away due to complications from ALS at 7:55 am on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of Harvey Craig Durham and the daughter of Harold Dean Gumm and the late Marie Crawford Gumm. She was a graduate of Southern Alamance High School class of 1985 and studied accounting at Elon College and the University of North Carolina in Wilmington. She was a former bookkeeper at Friendship United Methodist Church and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She was very active in the church organizing events and led the Salem UMC youth group for over 20 years. She also enjoyed helping with fundraising efforts for the FFA at Southern Alamance High School where her children were members.

Katherine’s life-long passion, other than raising her own children, was helping to keep tomorrow’s adults headed in a positive direction in life. She carried out countless mission trips and service activities for the youth group to instill the importance of community and helping those less fortunate than themselves.

In addition to her husband of 31 years, survivors include daughters, Rachel Durham and Katie Durham; sons, Matt Durham and Adam Durham, all of Snow Camp; brother, David Gumm and his wife Angela of Mebane, and her father, Harold Dean Gumm.

The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. At other times they will be at the residence.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Salem United Methodist Church and available via livestream. Those attending in person are asked to wear face coverings. The committal service will be held immediately following the funeral service in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Youth Group, 4471 Salem Church Road, Haw River, NC 27258 or to The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter at http://webnc.alsa.org
