Carroll Carlson, a 63-year resident of Owatonna, passed away on September 5, 2020, at the age of 92. Carroll Richard Carlson was born January 26, 1928 on a farm west of Kanawha, Iowa the son of Adolph and Ruth (Paskin) Carlson. He is survived by 4 children and spouses, Debra and (Joseph) Mueller, Owatonna, MN; Dean and (Debbie) Carlson, Colorado Springs, CO; Dale and (Anne) Carlson, Forest Lake, MN; and Doris and (Randy) Young, Spicer, MN. The apples of his eye were his 13 grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren, Kevin and (Rachel) Mueller, (Paisley, Violet and Summer); Kristi Mueller; Amanda Carlson (Ava); Brianna Carlson; Tyler Carlson; Lisa and (Nick) Stamos (Blane and Colton); Eric Carlson; Katie and (Peter) Bratt (Elianna and Lucas); Megan Carlson and (Andy Stevens), (Isabel); Molly and (Alex) Fischer (Weston); Max Carlson; Tasha and (Brandon) Lehner (Annika and Natalie); and Emmett and (Terah) Young. He is also survived by three sisters, Maxine (Cecil) Eliason, Jeanette Bonjour and Janice (Rex) Liekwig, and dozens of nieces and nephews. Carroll was preceded in death by his lovely wife Beverly and his beloved son Dennis, 2 brothers (Harland and Leo), 3 sisters (Margie Omvig, Leona Freerksen Abbas and Elaine Weiland, and baby girl Carlson) and two nieces (Karen Weiland and Darci Bonjour). Carroll graduated from Kanawha High School in 1945. He was inducted into the US Army in 1951, completing basic training at Ft Riley, KS, followed by service in Korea from May 1951 until May 1952. He received the Bronze Star for wartime meritorious service. He was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Etzen in Lake Mills Iowa on June 1, 1952, then graduated from Iowa State College in 1957 with a BS degree in Agronomy. The couple and their first two children moved to Owatonna, MN in 1957, a town they called home for 63 years. He worked with the US Soil Conservation Service throughout southern Minnesota, retiring in 1985 with 30 years of service. He then worked for the Steele County Soil and Water Conservation in Owatonna for 20 years. Carroll is a member of the United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Cedar Chapter #123, and a Life member of the Masons. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and NARFE. He participated with Beverly in the Do Si Do Square Dance Club from 1961-2002. Carroll was a kind man with a strong character and a great sense of humor. His favorite pastime was participating in life with Beverly and their 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He would do anything for any of them, anywhere and anytime. We love you very much, and we will miss you, Grandpa Carlson. A memorial will be held Thursday September 10th at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna, MN. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 with a service at 11:00 officiated by Dean Carlson. Burial with full military honors will take place in Forest City, IA around 1:00. For those that cannot attend due to distance or COVID concerns, the service will be live streamed and a link will be posted here as soon as it is available at the following link: https://www.wearelivetoday.com/celebration-of-life . The burial ceremony will also be taped by the family and made available. You can wave to the family from your cars at 11:45 and join in as the funeral procession heads out of Owatonna from Michaelson’s on its way to Forest City. Apologies from the family that refreshments and long hugs will not be available due to COVID constraints. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
