Sylvia C. Carey

<p>Sylvia Carey, age 87, of Battle Creek, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020, at Care Community Residence.&nbsp; She was born July 15, 1933, in Monroe, Michigan, the daughter of&nbsp; Christina and Edward Lickfeldt.</p> <p>Sylvia played organ for several Battle Creek funeral homes, Custer Chapel, and played at several weddings at various venues.&nbsp; She taught piano and organ lessons in the Battle Creek area.&nbsp; She volunteered her talents to Springfield High School choir and theater.&nbsp; In addition, she worked as a phone operator, and for several years as secretary to Dr. Ratzlaff.</p> <p>Sylvia traveled to Haiti on a mission trip, attended community college with her daughter, and attended docent training at Binder Park Zoo.&nbsp; She had a deep love for animals and enjoyed feeding the birds, oil painting, and continued her music education late in life.&nbsp; She greatly enjoyed her family, especially large gatherings.</p> <p>She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jonalyn Carey, her daughter, Lisa Carey, and daughter and son- in -law, Dollie and Bryce Cain.&nbsp; Her grandchildren Kayla, Bryce Jr., and Lauren Cain, Genna and Eric Carey.&nbsp; Her great grandchild, Isaiah Long.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; James A. Carey,&nbsp; and daughter; Sheila M. Harvey.</p> <p>Memorial contributions in Sylvia&rsquo;s memory can be made to Calhoun County Animal Center, Battle Creek, MI, or Saving Wild Tigers research at <a href="http://www.savingwildtigers.org/">www.savingwildtigers.org</a>.</p> <p>Sylvia&rsquo;s family would like to extend a special thanks to Henry Funeral Home.</p> <p>The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2020, at Richard A.
