Obituary

Collins,

Tona Rae Hightower, age 59, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 from injuries sustained in an accident.  She was born in Claxton on April 7, 1961 to Ray and Naomi Oliver Hightower and had lived in Collins most of her life. Tona was a hairdresser for over 39 years and owned Tona’s Beauty and Barber Shop.  In 2020, her business was recognized as “The Best of Tattnall” for her labor of love at the shop.  The close personal connections she would make with her clients over the years formed bonds closer than the word “friend” could ever convey.   Indeed, many would tell you, she not only was an ear to listen to their issues, but also a sage counselor.  Her wisdom and advice seemed to come from a bygone era.  Even her family would tell you she was born 100 years too late.  That “old soul” made her instantly loved and adored by all who she would come in contact with.  There was nothing that, if it were in her power, she wouldn’t do for you.  One of her favorite escapes was to the mountains.  She loved to connect with the solitude, stillness, and serenity that only the mountains could provide her.  A sweet and loving spirit that touched countless lives over the years, Tona’s death will leave a void that no one can fill.  She is preceded in death by her mother and her brother, Johnny Blaine Hightower.

Tona Rae is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter and son in law, Jincy and Scott Wallace of Reidsville; her father, Ray Hightower of Collins; sister and brother in law, Sabrina and Dr. James G. Patterson Jr. of St. Marys; nieces, Melissa Riggs Sapp of Claxton and Megan Lindsay (Paul) Evans of Deer Trail, CO; great nieces and nephews, Tucker Thigpen, Bryson Sapp, Briggs Sapp, Scarlet Evans, Jagger Evans, and Cooper Evans; significant other, Brian Watson, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends beginning at 5:00pm on Monday, September 7, 2020 at the Chapel of Low Country Cremation and Burial 135 North Main Street in Reidsville.  Funeral services will be conducted 11:00am Tuesday, September 8, 2020 from the Chapel of Glennville Funeral Home 403 West Barnard Street in Glennville with Dr. James G. Patterson, Jr. officiating with the interment to follow in the Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins, Georgia.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Williams, Mike Collins, Anthony Oliver, Ken Tatum, Chad Brown, and Dillon Todd.

Memorials may be given to Tattnall C.A.R.E.S. P.O. Box 2356 Reidsville, GA 30453
