Silvio Velasco Obituary

Silvio Velasco of Monroe Township, passed away at his home on September 5, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Silvio was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to Staten Island living there with his wife Celia and his children until finally settling in Monroe Township in 1996. Silvio served our country in the U.S. Army reserves during the Korean War and cold war era. He was a graduate of the College of Staten Island and worked as an engineer for Honeywell Corporation until his retirement in 1991. Throughout his life, Silvio enjoyed many passions. His love of sports, his adventure for travel, his delight in Broadway shows were all very special to him. Most importantly, he loved being surrounded by family and friends. He never wanted to miss a party where he could be found singing and dancing the night away. Silvio is predeceased by his Parents, Gino and Fortunata Velasco, as well his sister, Linda DeRosa. Silvio is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Celia along with his dear children, a son, Michael Velasco and his wife Lori of Morristown and his daughters: Celeste Velasco of New York City as well as Lisa Berntsen and her husband Ted of Staten Island. He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Haley, Michael Jr., Matthew, Carly, and Scott. Visitation will be held at the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home on September 12, 2020 at 9:30 am until 11:30 am. This will be immediately followed by a Catholic blessing at 11:30 am. Cremation will be private under the direction of the M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe Township, NJ 08831 (732) 521-0055 Donations may be made in Silvio's honor with the following charity: National Kidney Foundation and ask that funds be directed to Camp Reynal ... a 6-day residential camp program provided by the National Kidney Foundation to provide a true summer camp experience for children with renal and urology disease. https://www.kidney.org/donation In addition, those who wish to donate, may also make checks out to “Camp Okawehna”.
