Maria Stassi

Maria Stassi died September 5, 2020 at the age of 89 from Lewy Body Dementia. She was born in Palermo, Italy. She married her childhood sweetheart in 1955 and emigrated to the United States in 1956, where they initially resided in Lodi, NJ, later moving to Rockaway Twp. Mrs. Stassi was a seamstress for many years, then ran their own local grocery store business in Hackensack, NJ. She continued to work in various delicatessens until her retirement. She was passionate about raising her family, sewing and cooking for family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years Giuseppe “Joseph” Stassi in 2018, her brother Pino and sisters Pina and Elvira. She is survived by her four children: Anna Maria (James) Marino of Hope, Mario (Donna) Stassi of Hackettstown, Angela (Jerry) Patane of Bushkill, PA and Gloria (Randy) Sacco of Hope. She is also survived by her sisters: Giovanna and Ada of Italy; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Christina, Michelle, Gerard, Joseph, Brianna and Kayla; her great granddaughter, Gianna; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 9 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. Due to current State regulations, masks are required for entry; please be curteous of others paying respects due to the State’s current limitation on building capacity. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 10 at 10:30 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 70 Church St., Rockaway. Masks required at church, limited to first 70 attendees.
