Michael Jeffry Isabel Obituary

Michael Jeffry Isabel passed on September 3, 2020 at the age of 73. Michael was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 31, 1947, the oldest child of Robert and Rose Isabel. He grew up and attended school in Detroit, Michigan, then proudly served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1967-1969. After returning to Detroit, he met his sister’s college roommate, Phyllis Hakala, the love of his life. They were married for 47 years and raised their two children in Clawson. While his work life was spent as a machinist and later in environmental services at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michael’s true passion was his many artistic endeavors. He attended art classes at the Center for Creative Studies, Oakland Community College in Royal Oak and the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association. He enjoyed sculpting, painting, drawing, woodcarving and model ship building. Through the years, he gave presentations and won awards for many of his projects. In addition, he enjoyed antique clock repair and restoration, reading the Bible, American Indian history and culture, writing poetry, building his acoustic guitar, and attending gatherings of the Paint Creek Folklore Society. He was a long-time member of Prince of Glory Lutheran Church in Madison Heights, where he actively participated in the adult forum, quoting Bible passages effortlessly. He partnered on many church projects, including construction of the pulpit, baptismal font and altar. He emceed numerous church events including the annual folk coffeehouse. Michael will be remembered as a hard-working man with great faith in God, whose service to his country was important to him. He took immense pride in his family and wasn’t shy about sharing their accomplishments with everyone. Michael is survived by his wife Phyllis, children Dawn (Greg) and Jason (Lauren), granddaughters Violet and Juniper, sisters Theya and Cecelia, and brother Mark. Michael will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. Due to COVID-19, there will not be a service. The family would welcome stories and memories on the “Tribute Wall” of this page.
