Mr. James Manuel was born on September 10, 1937 in Bishopville, S.C. to the late Fleet and Vivian Huggins Jacobs. He was welcomed into Heaven on Friday, September 4, 2020, in his Hartsville, S.C. home. During his early years, James attended local schools. After graduating from Dennis High School in Bishopville, S.C. He entered the workforce. James worked for many years as a supply clerk at Galey & lord. He retired after giving the workforce 36 years of dedicated service. Not only was James a dedicated employee, but he was also a dedicated church member of Ebenezer United Methodist, where he serve as an usher and trustee. James was a wonderful, God-fearing man, who enjoyed serving the Lord and telling others about His goodness. Along with this faith, James’ family was his other top priority. James was married to the love of his life, Minnie Dewitt Jacobs, for 58 years. From this union, James became a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Some of his favorite pastimes included spending time with his family and friends and engaging with them both in person and on the telephone. Family was very important to him and everyone who got a chance to meet James could attest to the fact that he was a family man and would do anything for his loved ones. To know James was to love him. He could always be found enjoying a Washington Redskins or Los Angeles Dodgers game during football and baseball seasons. When his sports games were not on, he could be found enjoying episodes of Family Feud or any show about court. James also enjoyed hearty, home-cooked meals; some of his favorite foods were neck bones and rice, butterbeans and chocolate cake. James will be remembered for his appreciation for the simple things in life, and for his generous spirit and kind heart. James was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Wilmar (WJ) Jacobs and Lonzena J. Felix. Left behind to cherish his precious memories and continue his legacy are his wife, Minnie Dewitt Jacobs; His children, Yvette J. McPhail (Luther) of Florence, SC., Jeff (Zee) Jacobs of Laurens, S.C., Charles McClain of Wyandanch, N.Y., Sherman (Bannie) Williams of Hartsville, S.C., and Robin Montgomery of Camden, S.C., his granddaughter raised as his own, LaTrice “Nikki” Jacobs of Columbia S.C. his siblings, Herbert Jacobs (Catherine) of Bronx, N.Y., Michael Jacobs of Hartsville, S.C. and Lawrence Jacobs of Hartsville, S.C.; in laws, James (Betty) Dewitt of Charlotte, N.C. , Iva D. Hodge of Hartsville, S.C., Hattie Jacobs of Kingstree, S.C. and James Felix of Lynchburg, S.C., his God-daughter, Audra Marine of Hartsville, S.C., 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, the entire Ebenezer United Methodist church family and also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close relatives and friends.
