Gloria Jane Yellow Horn Obituary

Gloria Yellow Horn “Glo” (Pi’kaan’akii : “Treasured Belongings Women”) was born on February 27, 1963.  Gloria suffered in silence for years with her health condition.  On August 29, 2020 at the Chinook Regional Hospital, Gloria peacefully passed away with her family by her side and will be with the love of her life the late Homer Devine.  She is the daughter to the late Dave Storm (Siksika) and Mary (Bad Eagle) Storm (Piikani).  Gloria will be greatly missed by her two sons: Chvy (Jan) Storm and Tuz Storm; her grandchildren: Iceymist, Genesis, Bella and Cassandra; her sisters: Susan (Jordan) Bare Shin Bone (Kainai) , Winifred Storm (Calgary, AB and Winnepeg, MB) and Crystal Storm (Vancouver, BC); her forever childhood sisters and cousins: Marlene (Yellow Horn) Born with a Tooth and Sylvia (Yellow Horn) Four Horns; her nieces and nephews: Chantelle Roulette/Courchene, Joe Courchene, Benji Storm, Gilbert Jr. Standing Alone, Tasha (Grant) Standing Alone, Trent Standing Alone, Mark Standing Alone, Bobbi and Chad Bare Shin Bone, Scott (Jackie) Bare Shin Bone, Rae Ann (Bill) Creighton, Jayce Bear, Karen Storm; her special cousins: Gildas Storm and Adliane Storm, Virgina and Anita Bad Eagle. She is predeceased by her parents; her siblings: Colleen Bad Eagle, Lorna (Gilbert) Standing Alone and Harley David Storm; her forever childhood sisters: Tammy Yellow Horn and Terry Smith. Gloria’s mother’s family lineage is the late Brings-Down-The Sun, the late Pat and Susie Bad Eagle. Her father’s lineage is the Running Rabbit and Storm Clan.

Gloria lived her young life on the Piikani Nation with her auntie mom and dad; Romeo and the late Margaret (Bad Eagle) Yellow Horn; Dila Provist, Moris and Mary-Anne Macdougall from Piikani. Gloria attended school in Brocket, Pincher Creek, and Lethbridge College. Gloria was a strong and independent young girl, who would find herself in trouble with her aunty mom and dad.  She and her childhood sisters have awesome memories of their teenage life.  She met her husband the late Homer Devine and lived in Kainai and eventually her last few years in Lethbridge, AB.  She gained four beautiful grandchildren she loved and cherished every single day of her life.  Gloria worked at the moccasin factory in Piikani and made beautiful earrings to give or sell to the community.  She also worked at the library and a Second Cup restaurant in Lethbridge.  Gloria always had a beautiful smile and liked to joke around, she made life happier when she was around. 

She is a member of a large family on Piikani and Siksika reserves: Bad Eagles, Plain Eagles, Crow Shoes, One Owls, Yellow Horns, Macdougalls, Running Rabbits, Storms, Prairie Chickens, Big Eyes and Big Snakes.

There will be a wake service on September 4, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Eden’s Funeral Home Fort Macleod (2424 5 Avenue, Fort Macleod, AB). The funeral service will take place the following day (September 5, 2020) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Eden’s Funeral Home Fort Macleod. During the service there will be an opportunity for the who wish to share a story from Gloria’s life.  Following the service the interment will take place at Brocket Cemetery.
