Eugenia “Jennie” Kostuk Uliasz, age 102, of Stratford entered into eternal rest on August 25th, at Bridges by Epoch in Trumbull, CT. Born January 4th, 1918, in Bridgeport, CT, she was the beloved wife of Joseph Michael Uliasz for 53 years until his death in 1992. Jennie was the oldest of five children born to the late Ilya and Mary Lewko Kostuk. Jennie grew up in Bridgeport where she attended Prospect Street School, Bassick High School and Butler Business School. Always a hard worker, she went into the workforce at General Electric supporting World War II efforts initially, and then worked as a sewing machine operator and secretary at Warnaco in Bridgeport until her retirement in 1980. In 1965 she moved to Stratford living there until 2017 when she moved to Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living in Newtown. Remaining active and independent well into her 90’s, Jennie was a devout, lifetime member of the Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Church, where she was baptized and married. In her youth she was a member of the church’s Balalaika Orchestra. She enjoyed being involved with the Senior “R” Club, serving as secretary for several years. Proud of her Russian heritage, she cherished and delighted in family gatherings. As a member of the Baldwin Center in Stratford, she enjoyed attending meetings and trips. One of Jennie’s favorite past times was listening to polka music. She danced the polka well into her 90’s and listened to Jimmy Sturr’s polka music, which could often be heard drifting through her home. Jennie also enjoyed knitting and crocheting--her blankets were treasured gifts to many new babies; needlepoint, sewing, reading, playing pinochle, cooking, and baking -her apple pies were legendary! A committed volunteer at Bridgeport Hospital for more than 25 years, Jennie worked in the hospital library, patient escort, and knitted and donated countless infant hats to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Jennie was the loving and proud mother of her son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Dianna, of Bridgeport, and her daughter, Barbara, and son-in-law, Kenneth Kolesar of Southbury. A loving grandmother and proud great-grandmother, she is survived by her four grandchildren: Marnie Uliasz, Thomas Uliasz, Jessica Kolesar Clark, and Kenneth Kolesar and seven great grandchildren: Emily Clark, Jett Lyons, Andrew Clark, Lily Clark, Darla Paul, and Jacoby and Ethan Kolesar. Jennie is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jeraldine Lundy Kostuk of Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Jennie was predeceased by an infant son, Robert, her brothers, Nicholas, John, and Michael Kostuk, and her sister, Nina Kostuk Plukas. Her family would like to thank Athena Healthcare and the family of caregivers at Bridges by Epoch in Trumbull for their caring and compassionate care. Due to Covid-19, all services were private. The “Rite of Burial” was held at the Pistey Funeral Home in Stratford by the Very Reverend John Jillions and was followed by interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Bridgeport.
