Joseph Paul Vice, M.D.

Joseph Paul Vice, M.D., 53 of Ocean Springs, MS, went to his heavenly home on Friday, August 28, 2020. Joey was born on April 4, 1967 in Pascagoula, MS. Joey was a graduate of Moss Point High School, Millsaps University, Mississippi State University, and the University of Mississippi Medical School. Upon completion of Residency at Louisiana State University, he was a practicing physician in Beaufort, South Carolina, where he served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. Joey held a private practice in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lucedale, MS from 2001-2003 and in Ocean Springs, MS from 2003-2020. Joey was a dedicated physician and OB/GYN, and his work brought him great joy. He was a true cowboy, and he loved to ride horses and spend spare time crafting wood and metal works in his barn. Although many know Joey the doctor and Joey the cowboy, He is best known for being a devoted father and husband. He met his wife, Darla, in 1988 at Mississippi State University, and they married in 1990. In 1998, Joey and Darla were blessed with their triplet children, Mason, Victoria and Jillian. He loves his wife, who is his soulmate, and he is most proud of his children. Joey may have returned home to Heaven, but he leaves behind a beautiful legacy. Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollie and Doris Vice of Helena, MS, Larry Hunnings of Moss Point, MS, and Louise Willis Hunnings of Beaufort, NC and his father-in-law, Carl Green of Wade, MS. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 30 years, Darla Kay Green Vice; his triplet children, Joseph Mason-Daniels Vice, Victoria Lesley Vice, and Jillian Sage Vice all of Ocean Springs, MS; parents, John and Callie Vice of Helena, MS; siblings, Paula Vice Hansen (David) of Birmingham, AL, Donnette Vice Dickson (Phil) of Ashdown, AR, and Matthew “Matt” Vice of Helena, MS; mother-in-law, Dorothy Green of Wade, MS; Joey’s right hand and beloved friend, Tootie Courtney; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends. The visitation for Joey will be held on Monday, August 31, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel beginning at 12 noon with Joey’s mentor Dr. David Lewis of Shreveport, LA and Rev. Leslie Rhodes officiating. Interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Helena, MS with Brannon Corley III, Christopher Corley, Hunter Dickson, Jeff Goff, Donnie Smith, and Allen Goff serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Children’s Miracle Network. Joey’s favorite quote that he shared with his children many, many times: “Happiness lies in the absorption in some vocation that satisfies the soul.”- Sir William Osler Due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19, a face mask is required to attend the services.
