Dr. Robert Greer Lankford, “Lank”, was born in Richmond, Virginia on September 24, 1945 to the late Robert and Elsie Curtis Lankford. He was also preceeded in death by his sister, Audrey Lankford Boggs. He was the only son of five children. He departed this life on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Robert Greer gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Providence Park Baptist Church. He received his Elementary and Secondary Education in the Henrico County Public Schools and graduated from Virginia Randolph High School. Greer was an avid, athletic Running Back for the Typhoons. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Virginia Union University in 1968 and a Master of Science Degree from Virginia State University. Additionally, he received a Doctorate of Dental Science from the Medical College of Virginia, School of Dentistry. Robert Greer was joined in Holy Matrimony to Joyce Ann Miles on May 3, 1969. From this union, three children were born. He was a Boy Scout Master for Providence Park Baptist Church and served as a mentor for many young men in the community. He taught in the Charles City Public School System and Armstrong and John Marshall High Schools in the Richmond Public Schools as a Biology Teacher. Dr. Lankford then established a private Dental Practice on Brook Road. He transitioned from Private Practice to working for the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Corrections Youth Services at the Hanover, Barret and Bon Air Learning Centers. His skills, dedication and commitment to his profession, gained him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and his adolescent patients. His innate talent inspired and enhanced his zeal for carpentry, crafts, woodwork, landscaping and masonry as portrayed in the renovation of the family property. Among his many talents and attributes, fishing and taxidermy were his passions. He was an expert marksman, the skill being passed down from his father to his descendants. His love of music and his collection was exemplified in his extensive record, LP and digital music collection dating back before the 60’s. Greer, as he was affectionately called, was caring, compassionate, giving and known to be “the life of the party”. He was held in high regard by family, friends and many others with whom he encountered. He is survived by Kimberly, Robert Jr. (Jennifer), of Tacoma, Washington and a loving, devoted daughter and caregiver, Shea. Three devoted sisters, Marguerite L. Cowans, Jean L. Fountain, and Paula Cavens, M.D. of Chicago, Illinois. Five Grandchildren, Lawrence III and Destiny, Jordan, Kayla and Jaelyn of Tacoma, Washington. Three Brothers-in-Law, Raymon Cowans, Aubrey Fountain II (with whom he shared a brotherly relationship) and Robert L. Cavens, M.D. of Chicago, Illinois. Two Nieces, Tami, M.D. and Arjeme. Four Nephews, Rodney, Aubrey III, Esq. (Pamela), Shawn and Robert II. Three Great Nephews and one great niece, James II, Miles, Aubrey IV and Aubri. Greer shared a “special loving relationship with Joyce, his ex –wife and her family: Jean , Mary (Henry), Wilford (Frances), and Nancy (Darnell). He also leaves to cherish his memories, Annie Rowe, a close family friend and other relatives and lifelong acquaintances. Visitation will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home, Brooklyn Park Blvd on Thursday,6-7 pm. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6th at 12noon at Providence Park Baptist church, 468 East Ladies Miles Road. Rev. Dr. Jerome C. Ross, Pastor, officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
