He will be dearly missed by his daughter Geraldine, son-in-law Roy Palamar, grandchildren Randy, Jesse, Nikita; his son Bill, daughter-in-law Jacky, grandchildren Kyle and Jessica; sisters Phyllis (Murray) Elder and Crystal (Brad) Romanchuk, numerous nieces and nephews and all those that knew him.  He will also be missed by the family pets Bentley, Shylo, Hoolio, Sassafras, Lynx and Hooch.

Dad, we hope the pickerel will always put up a good fight for you!  We will miss you.

Gerald was predeceased by his wife Elsie, whom he missed very much, parents Joseph and Eva Bryk, and his brother Lawrence Bryk.

Gerald Samuel Bryk, age 85, passed away suddenly on August 24, 2020 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.

He was born on August 12, 1935 in Fort William in the Thunder Bay District of Ontario, where he also took his schooling.  He moved to Endeavour, Saskatchewan with his parents and two siblingsin November 1946.

Gerald married his wife Elsie in 1958.  Theybuilt their long-time family home in Preeceville in 1964, where they lived until Elsie’s passing in 2017.  Gerald then moved to Alberta to live between his son and daughter’s places, where he was able to spend more time with his children and grandchildren who all enjoyed his company.

Gerald was educated in Motor Vehicle Repair in Saskatchewan, receiving his Journeyman status in 1960, his Interprovincial Red Seal in 1974, and his Heavy-Duty Repair Journeyman status in 1976.  Gerald worked with his Dad and brother at the family garage in Endeavour and afterwards in the farm equipment industry until he retired.  Gerald and Elsie enjoyed many trips to the family farm in Endeavour where they enjoyed gardening, mushroom and berry picking, wildlife and bird watching and maintaining an impeccable lawn.  They were active members of the United Church in Preeceville.  Gerald was on the Preeceville Town Council for a few years as well as an active member and past-president of the Preeceville Lions Club.

Gerald was an avid fisherman and enjoyed walleye fishing in the Rocky Lake and Wekusko areas of Manitoba. He took his family on many camping and fishing trips up to Jan Lake, Saskatchewan.  This is where Jacky first learned that not everyone kept Jack fish.  She just about leapt out of the boat when they threw her 31” jack fish back in the water! Gerald was a big fan of shore lunch and was always a good contributor to that meal - in his self-proclaimed status of “Master Angler”!  (Move over Bob Izumi!!)  Everyone who fished with him remembers his constant reminder to all in the boat, “Set the hook!”

Gerald enjoyed puzzles, reading, watching curling and baseball on TV.  He was a talented wood-worker and created numerous picture frames and pieces of furniture for his children and grandchildren, as well as many unique items on his lathe.  He also enjoyed a wee dram of good scotch with friends.

He had fond memories of growing up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, driving a truck and delivering pop for his Uncle.  He would tell stories from his Endeavour, Saskatchewan adventures of hunting and hauling logs and hay out of the bush with the Greba’s and as a young adult - visiting the nurses residence!

The grandkids always liked their Grandpa’s wit and found he always had something humorous to say.  They picked up his favourite saying of “Holy Mackinaw!” and ‘Don’t take any **** from them goats!’
