Diane Jean Longazel Obituary

Diane Jean Longazel Diane passed away on 24Aug2020 after a two year fight with cancer which finally took my wife, lover and best friend. She was born on 2August1948 in Cleveland, OH. to Ernest and Eleanor August. As an only child she grew up with a big heart, great smile, and she had the best fun loving personality. On 18 September 1969 she eloped with 2nd Lt. Thomas Mark Longazel and on 19 September 1969 was married by Monsignor White in the Cathedral of Mary located in Baltimore, MD. She gave me 3 sons, Thomas Michael of D.C., Ernest Joseph of Havre de Grace MD. And Michael Patrick of Franklin, N.C. Tom got his chemical engineering degree from the U of MD College Park, MD. and Ernie & Mike graduated from the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. She was focused on the boys getting a college education. Diane followed me around the US and after a one year assignment to Omaha, Nebraska to finish my degree and a three year assignment to the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. We went to Ft. Meade, MD. where she decided she wanted to buy a home and not move the boys anymore. When Mike went to school full time she went to work at Ft. Meade in a temporary position and within two months was the executive secretary to the Commanding General of the 97th Army Reserve Command a position she held for ten years. When the 97th deactivated she took a job as the Protocol Officer for the entire Ft. Meade installation and retired from that position after 14 years with a total of 24+ years of federal service. Diane loved her family so much to include our granddaughter Ashton ,a junior at the University of Wisconsin and grandson, Devin a senior at the Old Dominion University in Norfolk VA. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and also by the many friends she made who got to be an important part of her life, during her time here on earth. But she will be missed most of all by me her husband and team mate. “There’s now a hole in my heart until we meet again my “Charmin”. Due to COVID -19 concerns a private memorial gathering will be held. A Catholic Burial Mass will be held at 9am on Tuesday September 1,2020 in the St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Annapolis MD. A private Burial will follow at the Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers I encourage donations to be made to the cancer charity of your choice in Diane’s name.
