Cluny Sheppard was born in 1946 in Stag Harbour, Fogo Island. He showed his entrepreneurial spirit as a young boy selling newspapers, and later as a door-to-door salesman. In 1962, he began working with Riff’s Limited in Lewisporte, and ten years later was recruited by Barwood Holdings to manage their operation in Lewisporte, Notre Dame Agencies, which at the time was a small plumbing and heating business. In 1975, Cluny purchased Notre Dame Agencies and under his leadership it has grown from a single operation in Lewisporte into an 18 location organization across central and western Newfoundland and Labrador (Notre Dame Castle Building Centre, Notre Dame Home Furnishings, Notre Dame Roof Truss, Notre Dame Realty, and Notre Dame Recreation). Throughout the years, Cluny served as a volunteer director on many boards and organizations and in 2006 he was inducted into the JANL Business Hall of Fame. Cluny loved God and his family.
