David Rice Obituary

David Rice passed peacefully away in the presence of his family at his residence at Newville, NL on August 18, 2020. He was born on Black Island to Stewart and Matilda Rice on December 20, 1952.  He worked at the Twillingate fish plant for 42 years. He was a beloved member of the community and thoroughly enjoyed the company of his friends and family.

David is predeceased by  his parents, brother Lindsay, first wife Melva (1995) and second wife Elsie (2017) He leaves with fond and loving memories his son Jeff (Madeline), granddaughter Emma, step-children Gary Gillard, Dave (Patsy), Kimberly (Shawn), Edith (Wade), Ryan (Christine), Rick (Helen),  Marina (Gary), Ida (Eric), step-grandchildren Rob, Danielle, Jake, Meghan, Rocky, Joe, Cody, Scott, Steve, Melanie, Adam, nephews Alvin Rice (Debbie), Terry Rice, brothers-in-law Walter Burt (Myrtle), Dak Burt (Liz), sister-in-law Christine (Stephen) as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

David was a strong independent man. He loved the great outdoors whether it was moose hunting, going for firewood or just up to the cabin in Loon Bay.

Resting at the New World Island Funeral Home, Summerford, NL where family viewing will take place followed by a graveside service on Thursday.

Donations in David's memory may be given to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Jeff wishes to give special thanks to David's healthcare givers Heather Eveleigh, Elaine Steele and the nurses in the acute care unit at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre for their outstanding care and compassion given to his father during his long illness.
