Maureen Byrnell passed away on August 15, 2020. Maureen was born at Vancouver General Hospital on January 31, 1933, but lived the first ten years of her life at Stave Falls, where her father, Roy Byrnell worked for BC Electric at the Power Station. The family moved back to Vancouver in 1943 where Maureen attended school at Templeton, then Britannia High School. Maureen was pre-deceased by her parents, Roy and Marietta Byrnell and her older brother, Warren. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sister, Donna Miller (Trevor), Donna’s children, Doug, Carolanne and David Oswald; Warren’s children, Rod Byrnell (Debbie), Bruce Byrnell (Lorraine), Karen Light (Bob) and Charlene Milton (David). Maureen started her work-life at BC Electric, but after her first travel experience to Europe, got the “travel bug” beginning a lifetime of travel experiences around the globe and organizing trips for others as a pioneer in the travel industry. She was a good amateur photographer and enthusiastically shared her experiences with other groups. Her work colleagues describe her as the “consummate professional”; knowledgeable, kind, generous with her time and fun to be with. Maureen was very involved in her church, Trinity Baptist, and enjoyed time spent in organizations such as Jobs Daughters, CFUW & P.E.O. (Promoting Educational Opportunities for Women) and women’s travel groups. She was a very social person, loved spending time with long-time friends meeting regularly with her school mates, travel buddies and work colleagues. Due to COVID 19 restrictions limiting the size of gatherings, a Celebration of Life will be postponed to a later date.
