<p>Claude E. Wagner, 73, of Hillcrest Drive, Groton passed away Friday, August 7, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center, Syracuse after a short illness.</p><p><br></p><p>Born June 12, 1947 in Cortland, he was a son of the late George W. and Vivian Shaw Wagner, Sr.</p><p><br></p><p>A 1965 graduate of Groton Central School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines two weeks after graduation. He served from 1965 until 1969, being stationed in Vietnam where he was engaged in heavy combat. After his service he lived in Florida and Texas before returning to Groton in the early 1980's. He was employed as a carpenter and a cabinet builder throughout his working career.</p><p><br></p><p>Proud of his military service, he was a member and served on the military honor burial guard of the Carrington-Fuller Post 800 American Legion in Groton, Finger Lakes Chapter 377 Vietnam Veterans of America in Dryden and a life member of VFW Post 7127 in Moravia.</p><p><br></p><p>He is survived by his children, Noelle Mayo of Groton, Mark J. Wagner and Brett R. Wagner; five grandchildren; a brother, Bill Wagner of Locke and a sister, Kathy (Howie) Crum of Locke.</p><p><br></p><p>Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, 11:00 a.m. At the Groton Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours.</p><p><br></p><p>Memorial contributions may be made to the Tompkins Co.
