Stanley Lee Karstetter Obituary

Stan Karstetter, 70 of Cherryvale, passed away August 8th in his home surrounded by family and friends. Stanley Lee Karstetter was born January 30th, 1950 in Oswego, KS to Melvin L. Karstetter and Wilma G. (Fish) Karstetter. He attended school in Mound Valley, Cherryvale, Rose Hill, and Wayside, graduating from Wayside High School in 1968. He attended Pittsburg State University. On July 26th, 1969, he married Mary Jo Hawkins in Cherryvale, KS. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Stan served in the Army National Guard from 1969-1975. He had a long career in sales, much of it related to the marine industry. Stan was an avid outdoorsman and had a lifelong passion for hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed catching crappie at Elk City Lake and walleye on Burntside Lake in Ely, MN. He loved nature and wildlife, and was always impressed by a good bird dog. He also enjoyed working in his garden and sharing produce with his friends and family. Stan loved books and all kinds of music. He was a long time member of the Elk's Lodge. Stan is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jo, daughter Angie (Mick) Hugo of Cherryvale, son Nicholas Karstetter of the home, grandsons Nash Hugo, and Reid (Shelby) Hugo also of Cherryvale, and brother Tim (Marlyn) Karstetter of McPherson, KS. Stan is also survived by an uncle, Cecil (Bonnie) Fish, of Ottawa, KS, many nieces and nephews, cousins, a host wonderful friends, and the world's goofiest Golden Retriever, Piper He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Joseph Forrest Karstetter. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or Harry Hynes Hospice. The family will receive visitors at Wickham Family Funeral Home in Cherryvale at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12th with services following at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale. ***The family respectfully requests that face coverings be worn or social distancing practiced at the service.
