Thelma Alberta Baker Sine, age 94, of Maurertown, VA passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital. 

A funeral service for Mrs. Sine will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jonathan Fletcher officiating.  Mrs. Sine will be laid to rest in Druid Ridge Cemetery in Pikesville, Maryland.  

Mrs. Sine was the devoted wife of Donald Edgar Sine, Sr. and mother of Stephen Eugene Sine and the late Donald, Jr. In addition to her parents and son she was preceded in death by five siblings.

Mrs. Sine was born in Baltimore, MD on December 20, 1925.  She was the youngest and last surviving child of Edward Eugene and Anna Marion Ebbert Baker.  During the summer of 1942 she was chosen along with several other girls to deliver telegrams for Western Union in downtown Baltimore while the men were overseas during World War II.  She was educated in Baltimore Public Schools.  After graduation she worked for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in the car service department for 14 years.  In later years Mrs. Sine was an Office Aide at Cross Country School and did some substitute teaching.  She spent several years as a Volunteer at Children’s Hospital and as a Teacher’s Aide at Arlington Baptist School.  Shortly after moving to Virginia in 1983, Mrs. Sine began volunteering at the Shenandoah Memorial Hospital where she gave 32 years of service.  Her Volunteer work also included Skyline Terrace Nursing Home.  She was a life-long member of the Church of the Brethren, both in Baltimore and in Virginia where she taught children’s class for over 25 years.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Wednesday on hour prior to the service.  

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Valley Pike Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 215, Maurertown, VA 22644.
