Ruby Owens Evans, age 93 of Forest City died Friday, August 7, 2020 at her home.  A native of Ellenboro, she was the daughter of Dovia Burns Owens and Pinkney Onzo Owens.  She was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings.  Ruby was a 1943 graduate of Ellenboro High School and a 1947 graduate of Appalachian State Teacher’s College.  She was a schoolteacher for five years until her marriage to Doyle Harrison Evans in 1952.  They were married 47 years until his death in 2000.

She was a faithful member of Florence Baptist Church since 1961.  At Florence she served in many capacities including Children’s Training Union, Sunbeams, Secretary for the Homebound Department and the Church Library.  She also served on the Food Group cooking and serving bereavement meals, as well as Vacation Bible School worker.  Ruby found a ministry in sending birthday cards to church members for many years and a part of the Piecemakers Quilting Group.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing and was an avid reader.  She even wrote a book documenting her life in 2001.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carol Ennis and son-in-law, Mike of Forest City, and son, Michael Evans and daughter-in-law, Yoshiko of Fresno, California, three grandchildren, Sarah Harwood and husband Josh, Rebecca Ennis and Lenny Evans and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o’clock Tuesday, August 11, 2020 in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.  Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.   The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 o’clock prior to the service at the mortuary.
