Marvin Jones

Marvin E. Jones, Jr., 78, of Roanoke passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020. He was born in Wytheville, Virginia on November 15, 1941 to his beloved mother, Lillian Gibbs Jones. Marvin was preceded in death by his mother; his son, Richard Anthony Jones; and his brother, Johnny Jones. Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. where he proudly served his country. When he returned home, Marvin attended Virginia Western Community College where he earned credits that helped him start his career at General Electric in Salem. He retired after 34 years with G.E. He loved riding motorcycles and especially liked Harley Davidson bikes. Marvin was a very caring and loving husband and father. The one thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his wife and children. Marvin also enjoyed spending time with his sisters and brother…he was a good family man. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 31 years, Vickie Jones; his daughter, Amanda Jones; his son, Todd Jones (Angela); his grandson, Connor Jones; his sisters, Lou Kessinger (Roy) and Elaine Meador; his brother, Frank Jones; and his furry companion, Mittens the cat. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Oakey’s North Chapel with Pastor Mark Manning officiating. Burial with Military Honors to follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Salem, VA. The family will receive friends at a Visitation on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
