Charles "Chuck" John Medford Obituary

Charles “Chuck” John Medford was born March 23, 1952, in Monroe, Michigan, to R. Foster and Eda (GoldBerg) Medford. Chuck spent nine of his childhood years in Africa with his two sisters and their missionary parents. He came back to the United States and graduated from South Lancaster Academy in Massachusetts. Just one day before the Vietnam draft would end, Chuck’s number was called, and he was drafted into the US Army. He served during the Vietnam era as a medic in Germany. When his service to his country came to an end, Chuck was honorably discharged, returned home, and took a job in a book bindery. After a time, he began working as a furniture upholsterer and began a 40-year long career, most of which was spent at Century Furniture in Longview, North Carolina, from which he would retire. Chuck had a passion for clocks and enjoyed collecting and repairing them. He also was fond of animals and had many of all kinds over the years including chickens, dogs, and cats. Chuck was the most loving and giving person; he would give anything to anyone in need at any time. He was completely non-judgmental and accepted everyone as they were. Chuck was gentle and helpful and just cared so much for those around him. He raised a daughter of his own who he loved and doted on. He spent many happy hours with and was a great buddy to his only biological grandson. During the last years of his life gained a whole new family to love when he reconnected with a childhood friend, Marilyn Taylor. They spent the last three years together living their best life, looking forward to getting married and retiring completely. Chuck accepted Marilyn’s kids and grandkids as his own. He always made sure that everyone in his family was well taken care of. Chuck adored all his grandchildren, and they were so very important to him. All their plans and dreams for their future would be suddenly cut short when Chuck passed-away unexpectedly on August 6, 2020. He will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind including his sisters Glenda Sutherland and Gloria Cooper and their families; fiancé Marilyn Taylor; daughter Juliana Medford and grandson Corbin Singleton; bonus children Dustin (Carrie) Gordon, Max Gordon, and Bay (Elijah) Nachand; and grandchildren Annie Gordon and Shea Gordon.
