A private family memorial service for Larry D. Kirnan, 79, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 10:30 am, Monday, August 10, 2020 at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, with Pastor Rhia Strohm officiating. Larry died Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at Aberdeen Health and Rehab. Larry D. Kirnan was born July 22, 1941 to Edward and Adeline (Mehlhaff) Kirnan on the family farm. He grew up near Wetonka, SD and attended school in Wetonka/ Ipswich, SD. When he was 14 years old, he moved to Aberdeen and lived with his Aunt and Uncle where he worked as a construction worker. On June 10, 1962, Larry married Linda Sloan at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. Together, they made their home of 50 years in Aberdeen and had two children. The family often enjoyed fishing and camping. Larry was deeply knowledgeable about mechanics and held jobs at various shops, including his own, Larry’s Auto. He later worked selling auto parts. Larry and Linda enjoyed time spent traveling to various dirt tracks as Larry used his knowledge as the pit crew chief and was a relief driver. Larry was a hard-working guy. He was patient, positive and always willing to lend a hand. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and NASCAR and listening to country music. He liked a good card game, especially pinochle, and was happiest when everyone was able to be together. Larry also enjoyed time spent with his special dog companion, Freddie. Grateful for having shared Larry’s life are his wife of 58 years, Linda Kirnan; children, Jeff Kirnan (Janelle Henman) and Kathy (Jim) Gross; grandchildren, Rebecca and Thomas Gross; and brother, Greg (Kim) Kirnan. Preceding Larry in death are his parents, Edward and Adeline Kirnan.
