Morris Masley Obituary

MASLEY – Morris Masley, of Sturgis passed away on Thursday July 30, 2020 in Preeceville & District Health Care Centre Long Term Care at the age of 95 years.

Morris was born to Jacob and Anna (Hallock) on August 17, 1924 in Mirror, Alberta. He was the eldest of three children; sister Marion who passed in 1954 and a brother Bernard who resides in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Morris’s parents later moved back to Tuffnell, Saskatchewan where they had originally met and got married. Morris went to school in Echo Lake until Grade 8 and High School in Tuffnell. After graduation he helped his parents on the farm.
When World War II broke out, he wanted to join the Air Force but was refused because his weight was too light.
In 1943, Morris’s parents bought a general store in Lady Lake, SK which Morris helped them operate. This is where he met Mary Prekaski.
When his parents sold the store, Morris went to Toronto for about a year and a half and worked in a bank. Morris and Mary continued their budding romance. Morris moved back to Sturgis and stayed at the Prekaski farm where he helped Mary’s parents farm.
On August 24, 1949, Morris and Mary got married, they then moved to Saskatoon where Morris attended Normal school. Six months later he graduated with an Intern Teaching Certificate, good for 3 years. They moved back to Mary’s parents farm.
In 1950 Morris accepted a teaching position at the country school Woodlight. After a few months he quit due to not liking it and that he would make more money farming. They continued to live with John and Allie who provided everything. He farmed with his in-laws, saved money, bought land, and built his own home in about 1970. Gradually, he bought more land and farmed it with his three sons for many years. In 2008 he moved off of the farm and resided in Sturgis. He went into the Long-Term Care in February of 2017.
Morris enjoyed farming, loved playing cards and occasionally went hunting.
Morris and Mary had five children, Wade (Joan), Brian (Lillian), Debbie, Craig (Rebbie), and Perry (Shelly).

Morris is predeceased by his wife Mary, parents Jacob and Anna and his sister Marion.

He leaves memories to his five children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and his brother Bernard (Bing).
