O’Brien, Geraldine E. (Jerry) of Westbury, New York and former resident of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 1st, 2020, three weeks short of her 98th birthday. Her parents were Beatrice and Colonel John Robert Hubbard, a direct descendant of Daniel Boone.  Jerry’s father’s Army career led to many diverse relocations including Liberty Island and Governors Island, where she attended grammar school.  Jerry graduated from the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, New York, in 1940, and from Manhattanville College, New York, in 1944. She was a teacher at Barrington School for Girls in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and made her career in Advertising in New York City.  Jerry was married in 1949 for 64 years to the love of her life, the late Edward R. O’Brien from Yonkers, New York, President of O’Brien Yarns in New York City. Jerry and Ed were daily communicants and enjoyed world travel, especially to remote parts of the world.  Jerry is survived by four daughters, Deborah O’Brien-Smith, Deidre O’Brien Breen, Dorann Sheehan, and Delia O’Brien- Brown, and sons-in-laws, Brian, Thomas, Dennis and Patrick. She was blessed with nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren of whom she loved dearly. Jerry participated in volunteer work at St. Brigid’s School, the library at Holy Trinity High School, Hicksville, and belonged to the Westbury League of Mercy Hospital and the Columbiettes. Jerry was the epitome of grace and dignity, religious devotion and intellectual curiosity. A private Mass of the Christian Burial will be Live Streamed from Saint Brigid’s Church, Westbury, NY, on Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 9:45 AM. Private Interment to follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York. Donations appreciated to Saint Brigid’s Parish Outreach-50 Post Avenue, Westbury, NY 11590.
