<p>Mrs. Jo Ann Newsome Brintle, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, August 1, 2020, at Central Continuing Care.&nbsp; Mrs. Brintle was born May 6, 1934, in Roanoke, VA, one of three children born to the late Raymond K. and Evelyn Ferrell Newsome.&nbsp; Jo Ann retired as a cafeteria worker from Northern Regional Hospital, and she faithfully attended White Plains Friends Meeting.&nbsp; She volunteered countless hours for 18 years with Meals on Wheels for Winston-Salem Urban League.&nbsp; She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred Garnett Brintle, Jr. and Melody Brintle of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Danielle Brintle of Mount Airy; a grandson, Kaleb Brintle of Mount Airy; and a sister, Betty Newsome Bledsoe of Mount Airy.&nbsp; In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brintle was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Garnett Brintle, Sr.; and a brother, James C. &ldquo;Sonny&rdquo; Newsome.&nbsp; Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside celebration of Jo Ann&rsquo;s life will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating.&nbsp; No formal visitation will be held.&nbsp; Due to COVID-19 concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC&nbsp; 27030; or donate blood in memory of Jo Ann to the American Red Cross.&nbsp; Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.</p>
