Jo Ann Brintle Obituary

Mrs. Jo Ann Newsome Brintle, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday morning, August 1, 2020, at Central Continuing Care.  Mrs. Brintle was born May 6, 1934, in Roanoke, VA, one of three children born to the late Raymond K. and Evelyn Ferrell Newsome.  Jo Ann retired as a cafeteria worker from Northern Regional Hospital, and she faithfully attended White Plains Friends Meeting.  She volunteered countless hours for 18 years with Meals on Wheels for Winston-Salem Urban League.  She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Fred Garnett Brintle, Jr. and Melody Brintle of Mount Airy; a granddaughter, Danielle Brintle of Mount Airy; a grandson, Kaleb Brintle of Mount Airy; and a sister, Betty Newsome Bledsoe of Mount Airy.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brintle was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Garnett Brintle, Sr.; and a brother, James C. “Sonny” Newsome.  Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside celebration of Jo Ann’s life will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Friends Meeting Cemetery, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating.  No formal visitation will be held.  Due to COVID-19 concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030; or donate blood in memory of Jo Ann to the American Red Cross.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
