Louis J. Bohaboj

Mass of Christian Burial for Louis J. Bohaboj age 92 of rural West Point, NE will be on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Masks are strongly recommended for both the service and visitation, with socially distanced seating by households. Interment with Military Honors will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with masks strongly recommended. A vigil service will be held on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. The funeral service will be live streamed on Tuesday at www.facebook.com/minnickfuneralserviceinc. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is assisting with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the family for future designation in Louie’s name. Louie passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE. Louis Joseph Bohaboj was born July 12, 1928 in rural Cuming County, NE to Alois and Bessie (Kresl) Bohaboj. He attended Cuming County Rural School Districts #37 and #41, St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and graduated from Dodge High School in 1946. He helped on the family farm. Louie was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He served in the 8th Army in the Medical Corp from April of 1951 until he was discharged in March of 1953. He did his basic training at Fr. Leonardwood, MO. He served at a prison camp in Korea. After being honorably discharged, he returned to the family farm. On December 28, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Maresh at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Louie farmed and raised cattle in Cuming County until retiring from farming in 1995. He continued to raise cattle and help on the farm after his retirement. He was known by some local farmers as “Iron Man”. Louie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, American Legion Post #122, where he served as Commander in 1978, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8597, served on the Farmers Coop Board, Dodge School Bus Board. He was proud to attend the Korean Honor Flight, it meant a lot to him when he was seen with his Korean War Hat and was thanked for his service to his country. Louie was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing any type of cards, assembling puzzles and watching Husker sports. Survivors include his children and their families- Son-James and Deborah Bohaboj of Blair, NE and family- Jeremy (Joey) Bohaboj and children-Ayden & Ava, Christopher (Tara) Bohaboj and children-Lakyn, Brecken, & Axton, Patricia (Jared) Lierman and son-Rhett Daughter-Victoria French of Kansas City, MO and family- Laura French (Jason Henke) and children-Harper & Henry, Sarah (Robert) Cornett Daughter-Barbara and Allen Krabbenhoft of Omaha, NE and daughter-Lisa Krabbenhoft Daughter-Theresa and Bernie Hegemann of Howells, NE and family-Jason (Abby) Hegemann and children-Gavin, Levi, & Will, Brent (Ellen) Hegemann and son-Charles, Julie Hegemann and fiancé Garth Forbes Son-Jerome and Barb Bohaboj of Sioux Falls, SD and family-Jamie Bohaboj, Carter Bohaboj, Nicole (Dan) Bowen and children-Rowdy, McCoy, & Nash, Kyle (Christy) Mogck and children-Tynlee, Wyatt, & Willow Louis was preceded in death by his parents-Alois and Bessie Bohaboj, wife-Mary Ann Bohaboj, a brother in infancy-Joseph Steven Bohaboj, a sister in infancy-Anna Marie Bohaboj, a brother-Joseph B. Bohaboj, and a son-in-law-James French.
