Sammie Lee Burton

Sammie Lee Burton affectionately known as" radio" to his friends was born June 21 1950 in Granville county, in the small town of Northside, NC. He departed this earthly life on Saturday August 1st 2020 at Duke Hospice Hock family Pavilion, after an extended illness.<br><br>Sammie attended G.C.Hawley high and graduated in 1970. After graduating from high school he joined the marines in 1975 and was honorably discharged. He then moved with his family to Durham, where he resided for the remainder of his life. He took up work at Duke University in environmental services. <br><br>Sammie was a member of the Church of God and True Holiness at 203 east end ave; where he was an acting deacon at the church.<br><br>Sammie was preceded in death by his father James Burton Sr.; mother,Clara Walker Burton; and brother, James Burton Jr. <br> <br>Sammie leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Clinton Century and Deon Lyons (Brittany); three grandchildren, Josiah, Laila, and Harlym; four sisters, Lillie Mae Montague (Scoffield), Julia B. Burwell, Sallie Ann Burton, and Clarissa Cooper (Kenneth) all of Durham NC; Brother Philip Burton of Camden NJ; six nieces Linda, Stephanie, Kathy, Elaine, Jackie, and Kendra; one Nephew, Timothy Burton; and a host of other family and friends.<br><br>The family wishes to thank everyone for their acts of kindness and sympathy shown at this time.<br><br>Also, a special thanks to Eden Nursing Home of Durham and Duke Hospice Hock Family Pavilion .
