Maria Anna Dunne Obituary

Mary Dunne passed away peacefully at the Kelvington Hospital in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 26, 2020 at the age of 91 years, with her son Randy by her side. Mary was born at the Thole family home located on Sec 20, Tp 37, Rge 20, W2, near St. Gregor, SK on June 25, 1929. She was one of seven children born to Henry and Josephine (Bockmann) Thole. Mary attended Newham school until it was decided she would help her parents financially. She worked at various places, mostly doing chores and babysitting. All her earnings were turned over to her parents, except on one occasion when her mother let her keep $5 to purchase a dress and a pair of shoes. Mary met her husband Charles Dunne Jr. at a Valentine dance in Leroy. Just over 4 months later, Charles purchased a Blue River diamond wedding ring and on November 18, 1947, they said their wedding vows at the St. Ignatius church at Sinnett, SK. Mary’s precious twin sister Martha and Charles’ amazing brother Lawrence were their witnesses. An old 2 room house (the old Anstett house) with no water or power was mom and dad’s first home which he bought in the summer of 1947 for $200. The first 6 of their baker’s dozen grew up in that house. Dad and mom started their alphabet with the first child being Annette, then onto Billy, Delorne, Evelyn, (F being the farm) and Trudy (Gertrude). Their second larger house, which also had to be increased in size, is where the last 6 grew up with Patty, Rose, Randy, Ruben, LindaMae and Jason. The missing letters of alphabet were given in their middle names. The siblings remember dad and mom being very active in community functions, especially in the CWL and The Knight of Columbus where dad was responsible for lighting the furnace and mom cleaned at St. Ignatius Church. It was in 1984 when dad and mom built there retirement home near Rockford, SK. After dad’s passing in 2001, mom stayed at Rockford until 2007 when she purchased a house in Kelvington, SK. This house was special because it had an open field next to it, but mostly because it was built by Dad’s sister, Cecilia’s son, Jim. Mom loved and lived for her ever growing family. She always gave you a hug and her “LOVE” smile with tears in her eyes. She constantly worried about all of her kids, grandkids, great-grand kids and great-great-grand kids. She disliked being alone and more so wonder if it wasn’t because she never was alone. Gardening, canning, and baking were a must even after all her kids were grown and living their own lives. Picking whatever variety of berries available and processing them. She did all this and more until she was not able to use her legs. Each of her children and grandchildren, received homemade quilts that she crafted. Numerous items from knitting/crocheting, hand/dish cloth towels, afagans, slippers were made and she was proud and happy to disperse between all her crew. Most of us siblings took clothes to her to be patched or a zipper put in. She always removed and saved a zipper or buttons from tattered clothes for replacement. She loved bingo and playing cards and board games. She was an early morning riser and would rather be outdoors than in. Mary was also a member of CWL since 1949, 71 years. Her hard working efforts are unforgettable. She’ll never be forgotten and will be forever loved by so many. Love you ,mom, from infinity and beyond. Mary is survived by her children: Annette (Dave), Bill (Joanne), Evelyn ,Trudy (Jerry), Patty (Mike), Rose (Bryan), Randy, Ruben, Linda (Les) and Jason; 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, her sisters: Beth Harpauer, Josephine Crone and Clara Lemmerick; her brother Joe Thole; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Jim Dunn, Allen (Velma) Dunne, Mildred Dunne and Laura Dunne. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband Charles Dunne Jr., her sons Joseph, Conrad and Lorne; her grandson Sigurd Arneson; her twin sister Martha (Lawrence), her brother Henry (Evelyn); her brothers-in-law: Paul Crone, Henry Lemmerick and John Harpauer; and her sister-in-law Sandra Thole.
