Heiland, Bertha E., 86, of Absecon, passed away suddenly on November 11, 2015, Surrounded by her loving family. Bertha grew up on Texas Avenue in Atlantic City. She moved to Pleasantville, when she was married and lived there for over 50 years. She then moved to Absecon to live with her son and family. Bertha was a member of Green Tree Church in Egg Harbor Twp. She worked at Dunkin Donuts in Atlantic City, the Woodland Avenue School in Pleasantville and Spencer Gifts in Egg Harbor Township, where she retired after working for many years. Bertha is predeceased by her husband, John Heiland; her sons Tom ( Doris) and Gary Heiland; her sisters, Betty Paris, Ida (Toot) Tindaro and Shirley Senft. She is survived by her son Kirk Heiland (Sherry); her brother, John Hughes; her daughter-in-law, Lyn Strickland; her grandchildren, Gary Heiland, Marc Heiland, Julie Heiland (Martin Kelley), Becky Jackson (Fred), Kirk J. Heiland and Brooke Heiland; her great-grandchildren, Maia, Theodore, Francis, Paige, Gregory and Laura. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bertha was the ultimate social butterfly. She enjoyed life and had the knack for conversation. She cherished and shared her pictures of her life and travels with everyone. Bertha traveled all around the world as a member of Adam Barthalts Polka Group. She loved her family and tried to spend as much time as she could with all of them. She enjoyed spending time at the Methodist Senior Care Center, The Hi-Point Pub, The Black Cat, The Absecon Historical Society and Gourmet Italian Cuisine. A southern Comfort Manhattan was her drink of choice, ‘only one though’. She always took a little piece of every dessert since she loved to try them all. To know her was to love her. She will be missed but her memory will be cherished always. Visitation will be 10AM to 12PM, Saturday November 21, 2015 at Parsels Funeral Home, with a service being offered at 12PM.
