Peggy Gene Selby Obituary

Mrs. Peggy Gene Selby, 91, of Lafayette, LA, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Courtyard Manor in Lafayette. Peggy was born July 2, 1929, in Pope, Mississippi and was a resident of Picayune, Mississippi for 26 years. Peggy married her childhood sweetheart, Owen, May 29, 1946, after his service in United States Navy. They traveled across the United States and the world with his employment with the Corp of Engineers. Owen and Peggy decided to make Picayune their family home base. While living in Picayune, she was the shop owner of City Stationery and Gift Shop for many years. Peggy moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 2002 and later settled in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana in 2013, to be with her son, after the death of her husband, Owen. Peggy was a member of East Side Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. She was active in her community and belonged to several clubs throughout her life. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed using her “green thumb” to plant various flowers. Most of all, Peggy loved spending time with her family and friends. Peggy is survived by two sons, John Selby and his wife, Mary of Breaux Bridge, LA and Thomas Selby and his wife, Margaret of Monroe, NC; two brothers, William "Billy" Jefferson Magee and his wife, Pat of Uvalde, TX and Houston Magee and his wife, Helen of Byhalia, MS; her daughter-in-law, Gina Selby of Fayetteville, AR; three grandsons, Owen "Trey" M. Selby, III of Fayetteville, AR, Christopher Selby and Cameron M. Selby, both of Charlotte, NC; two great-grandsons, Quaid Selby and Rhett Selby, both of Fayetteville, AR and numerous dear nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Owen M. Selby, Sr.; her parents, John Hubert and Minnie Ola Goodwin Magee; her son, Owen M. Selby, Jr. and three brothers, Richard Magee, James "Jimmy" Magee and Danny Magee. Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 2 pm in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery with Rev. Finley Cutshaw officiating. Due to the most recent mandates of the current pandemic, attendance may be limited, and social distancing and masks are required for all gatherings. The family wishes to thank the nurses, CNAs and staff of Courtyard Manor, the staff of Acadian Hospice, her caregiver, Dolores Hebert and especially her doctor, Dr. Thomas Voitier for the compassionate care given to Peggy and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peggy's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by mail at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, by phone at 1-800-873-6983 or online at www.stjude.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Dickins Funeral Home, locally, and to Fountain Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.
