Mr. Leroy James Mack, Sr. son of the late Sam Mack and Rebecca Gibbs Mack was born February 21, 1928 on “McCants Hill” located in the Pinopolis community of Moncks Corner, SC.  He was eldest of six children. Siblings Buster Mack, Alvin Mack, and Lula Mae Mack preceded him in death. 

At an early, he joined Nazareth Reformed Episcopal Church where he was faithful lifetime member. He was also the member with the Longest Attendance  record at Nazareth.  Leroy believed in giving service to God and to his fellow man.

He attended the public schools of Berkeley County, SC.  His formal education stopped at the fifth grade because of circumstances beyond his control.  Even though his formal education ended at the fifth grade-level, because of his thirst for learning and the need to help his mother with his younger siblings, he became a self-taught man.

Leroy was well loved by everyone.  He was a caring man who assisted others in the community that was in need such as; taking them to church and visiting the sick and shut in. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, hunting, fishing, and baseball. 

He accomplished a lot in his life too numerous to name. He established his own business before retiring in 1992 from the (ILA) International Long Shoreman in Charleston, SC for over thirty plus years. He said, “I’ve done all of this because “God Kept Me!”

Leroy was united in Holy Matrimony to Elizabeth Lillian Reid, for 52 years.  She preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memories are his children: Willie Mae Gibbs (Holbert) Summerville, SC, Emily Mack-Gregg (Leo), Archdale, NC, Leroy James Mack, Jr. (Thelma) Moncks Corner, SC, and Gwendolyn Lassie Reid (Charlie) Bonneau, SC. Grandchildren: Tony Gibbs, Kimona Mack, O’Keel Gibbs, Qujuan Butler, Rosa Coleman, Anastasia Mack, Silvia Gregg, Jorge Gregg, Charles Demetrius Gregg, and Christian Gregg. One great grand: Kiersten Mack.  Siblings:  Gertie Smith (Ernest) Moncks Corner, SC, Walter Ervin Mack Sr, Samuel Heyward (brother/cousin) Moncks Corner, SC. and a host of nieces, cousins, and friends.
