James Conrad Platt, Jr.

James Conrad Platt Jr. age 99 of Decatur, Georgia passed away on December 12, 2015. He was born on July 11, 1916 in Cartersville, Georgia to James Conrad Platt Sr. and Bonnie Kate Saxon Platt. He was predeceased by his wife, Myra Warren Platt and his son, James Conrad Platt III.Mr. Platt graduated from Georgia Tech in 1938 with a degree in textile engineering. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy where he survived the sinking of the USS Borie. After the war, Mr. Platt became superintendent of federal prison industries for the federal government where he worked until his retirement in 1971. He was a member of Decatur First Methodist Church for 65 years. He was an avid golfer and played once a week at Druid Hills Country Club until age 95.Mr. Platt is survived by his children, Meme Wilder (Brown) and Hal Platt, his grandchildren, Beau Wilder (Val) and Christy Greene (Scott), his great grandchildren Sam Green, Charlie Green, Alexandra Wilder, Preston Wilder, and C.B. Wilder; his brother John Harold Platt of Gainesville, Ga, and sister Elizabeth P. Johnson of Gainesville, Ga. Additionally, he is survived by a very special friend, Ruth McCann. He is also survived by Mrs. Platt's nephew, Linson Warren (Angie and son Erik), who lived with the Platt's after the death of Linson's parents.Donations may be made in Mr. Platt's memory to the Decatur First Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Decatur First Methodist Church. Funeral Home: A. S. Turner & Sons 2773 North Decatur Road Decatur, GA 30033
